(continued on marriage)One of the next directives in having a home the way God intended is raising children. Most of us, if God has permitted, have children enter our home after marriage and is probably one of the greatest sanctifying works in life, first marriage, second children. Psalms 127:3. “Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Heritage is defined as “something inherited, heirloom”, the word heirloom means “a family possession handed down from generation to generation.” Literally this verse is saying we are receiving what Someone(God) has planned as a possession for you through many generations as a reward by God. Wow, that puts a great responsibility on each of us as parents. This is the great sin of abortion, we are messing with Gods plan. We should thank God for every child He has put in our marriage and count it a privilege to give them back to Him for His use. Once we have accepted this responsibility, we must learn to give them direction. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “ And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently(intensively, to pierce) unto thy children, and thou shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” In other words ALL THE TIME THE WORD OF GOD SHOULD BE IN OUR INSTRUCTION! This cannot be left to the pastor, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, or especially public school. There is a curious void that is placed in every child that must be filled with the Word of God by the parents. It is easy to talk the most about what we love, hobbies, food, attire with those we love but have these replaced the greatest influence of our lives, the Word of God. What is being said is God should be interwoven in all aspects of our lives. Psalm 78 is a great example of why vs7 “That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments.” We should teach them they are responsible to pass this Godliness on as an heirloom. I’m sure we will give account to God on how we have handled our inheritance from Him!
